Should I accept mediocrity because it’s free, or be ruthless and get straight to the point? Unfortunately, being free is a big plus point, unless you can try to ignore the main menu prompts to purchase stuff.

Now comes the biggest dilemma: the game is free. I really wanted to like this game, and I know I’m a little tough here, but guys, a little higher production values always help. Maybe I’m a noob, but hey, I actually find that insulting! Things happen so quickly during the game that I was completely lost. I probably would have made up for the lag if the entry into the games had gone smoothly. It’s hard to tell if it was right for me, or for other people – but waiting for the lobby to try to get into a match wasn’t fun either. People teleporting around me, it’s no fun guys! It’s not, like, you know… 2006. I haven’t had much luck online either – due to the atrocious netcode. I know it’s an MMO and all, but seriously – at least it could have been well designed, or with a little thought behind it. You might think that’s a good thing! But that’s the definition of repetitiveness, and the main thing that rocks it is that you have to do them to unlock more characters. There is a tutorial mode here for all classes. But it’s fun, if you can ignore the silly animations.

I chose Boxer because I love to hit people! Running like a headless chicken trying to hit other opponents who were also running like headless chickens, resulted in the biggest carnival of silliness, which frankly was a little… boring to say the least. So that’s it! Rock Hippo has managed to create a bunch of generic classes, which have no depth at all.

They are mainly used for cleaning the house. Blitzers are dudes with football in their hands – and looking tough and strong. Boxer is pretty self-explanatory Slugger has a baseball bat! The Fireman sprays water on his opponents and is also a midrange fighter.

Rocker, for example, has a guitar that you can do damage with – and there are three attacks – primary, secondary, and special, associated with mouse buttons. Each of them does their own thing, and as the name suggests, you kind of get a feel for their core specialties. You can choose from classes, and there are plenty of them – Fireman, Rocker, Blitzer, Slugger, and Boxer. Is it hard to ship with decent orders anyway? Sure, it’s a melee game, and on a PC, especially with a mouse, it might take a little adjustment – but the patchy sensitivity combined with poor targeting is really disappointing. The controls might be straightforward, but I had so much trouble adjusting to them that the whole gaming experience fell flat in front of my face. Left and right mouse buttons for punches and, if you press both buttons, magic happens – in fact, a special attack. It’s a beat-em-up game, so the controls are pretty straightforward here. There are a lot of courses available to you and combined with a third-person view – that’s all you could ask for in an MMO, right? Well, sort of. Cartoon graphics can be a major annoyance for many, but once you get used to it there’s a very good chance you’ll actually like it. It looks a bit like Team Fortress 2 when it comes to visuals and overall aesthetics. Brawl Busters is a free to play MMO for PC.
